Huston-Tillotson University, Track All-Star
Chika Okwor, a sophomore at Huston-Tillotson University with a 4.0 GPA, majoring in petroleum/civil engineering with a minor in math. She was born and raised in Nigeria. She moved to the United States 3 years ago, where she attended and graduated from Jarrell High School, Jarrell, Tx. She is a student athlete, she does track and field for Huston-Tillotson University and she does 8 different events in track which include the 200, 800, 100m hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot put, javelin and the discuss. She is a W.E.B DuBois Scholar. She is a Peer Learning Coach(PLC). She is the president of the National Association of Black Engineers (NSBE) HT chapter, the Student Government Association (SGA) secretary. She is the campus chair for Green is the New Black organization, pre-alumni council secretary and the International Student Association(ISA) treasure. A committee chair for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People(NAACP) HT Chapter. After she graduates with #HT19 she would like to attend graduate school to get her masters in petroleum/ civil engineering. She is very passionate about caring for kids and hopes that one day she will be able to cater to every kid who needs her and does not have anyone to provide for them and be able to reduce the number of kids we have out on the streets and give them a great education so they can change the world because they all have great minds and great goals they want to accomplish; they just need someone to reach out to them and start a stepping stone for them. She owes everything in life to God because he is the Author of her life.
